Individual Work is better than
Group Work
Many
students like to work in groups because they think that it is easier when they help
each other to do the work and share their ideas in doing it. And it is
appropriate to poor students to work without proper guidance from their
respective teachers. On the other hand, individual work is a better way for
some students, who are more confident and more self-sufficient than others. I
will support this view for variety of reasons.
In the first place, individual work
can help students avoid encountering conflicts with friends or some other
students in doing their assigned task. In this way, students can put their own concepts
into their task independently. They can work without opinions from others who
could sometimes cause them to change their minds. Besides, they cannot hear some
of their friends or group members to complain about cooperation in completing
their work. Another major reason in doing individual work is to increase independence
and sense of responsibility of the students. Everybody has to do the work by themselves
therefore, it is good for them to practice doing things on their own. Although
some of them are incompetent to work alone, they still have to try until they
succeed so, they will not become parasites and dependent to other people.
However,
it could be argued that, many people think that individual work hinders human
interaction. They do only their work but they do not attend to other people’s
needs to build friendship and good relationship. Moreover, students cannot
learn how to work with other people if they do individual work. Nevertheless,
the students can effectively learn to interact with people by meeting together as
they exercise, have dinner, watch movies, etc.
In
conclusion, I strongly believe that individual work is better for the students
because there are a lot of benefits by working alone rather than in groups
where they could encounter conflicts. Though the teacher can also ask the
students to work individually in the classroom. It can help them to be responsible
and independent individual in doing their task. Therefore, it is easier to work
individually better than doing the group work.
